There are at least four school children there, he added.

At least two teachers have already signified interest in a volunteer teaching job on Pagan, he said.

Saipan Mayor Donald G. Flores said the roofing sheets were used by the Liberation Day booths last year.

“The Liberation Day Committee decided to donate some of the roofing sheets,” he said.

He said committee chairman Jonas Barcinas, who is also the principal of Hopwood Junior High School, was pleased to learn about Aldan’s plan to build a school on Pagan, a volcanic island.

Flores said the Public School System is also planning to donate chairs and tables for the proposed school building.

He said his office will help solicit donations of lumber and other building materials from members of the community.

Aldan said they will also ask other government agencies to donate materials.

Following a volcanic eruption in 1981, most of the Pagan residents have relocated to Saipan.
