Club 88 celebrates 4th anniversary

FOR four years now, Club 88 has been making significant contributions to the CNMI economy, Saipan Vegas Group consolidated manager Gus Noble said.

Club 88 was established on July 16, 2015 and became part of the Saipan Vegas Group in early 2019.

Noble said e-gaming was introduced to the CNMI as an additional tourist attraction. “Most importantly, it was introduced to be another source of revenue for the government.”

Club 88 has been diligently paying its 15 percent gaming tax, Noble said.

“We actually pay in advance. We also pay a $100,000 annual operating fee. We pay our BGRT [business gross revenue tax] on time…. I think we have made a significant contribution as far as government revenues are concerned.”

The Club 88 manager also noted that 100 percent of their employees are U.S. workers. “We don’t have any CWs or foreign worker here. We employ locals, we train them. We don’t bring in managers or supervisors. We train them and move them up to supervisor and manager positions.”

But Noble said Club 88, like many businesses on island, has been affected by the economic downturn.

However, he is confident that the Saipan Vegas Group, which includes Club 88, can cope with the ups and downs of the local economy. “We have a good and sustainable business,” he said. “You have to build a business and run a business that is able to work through the tough times.”

On Tuesday night, Club 88, which is located at Ocean View Hotel on Beach Road in Garapan. celebrated its fourth anniversary.

For the entire month of July, marketing supervisor Racquel Huit-Floyd said Club 88 is holding a midnight mega draw promo every Friday. Lucky customers have a chance to win $2,500, she added.

For their fourth anniversary celebration on July 16, she said they raffled off $5,000.

Noble said since Club 88 opened four years ago, “we have doubled in size — we have expanded. We took over a gift shop which allowed us to get more comfortable surroundings and increase our machine numbers for players.”

Currently, Club 88 has 102 slot and roulette machines.

“We are always looking at expanding options for players, our products for players, our promotions. We give away big prizes. We want to be the leaders in promotions. We have new gaming machines coming. It is all about creating a fun experience for the players — a pleasant environment, good products and good promotions.”

In the future, Club 88 will have new roulette machines and other electronic games, Noble said.

For its patrons, Club 88 serves unlimited drinks — water, coffee, beer — and snacks.

But Noble said they also advise their customers to “game responsibly.”

“Gaming is about entertainment with a chance of having a big win. Don’t spend money you don’t have. Don’t chase your losses. If you’ve had enough then leave. We just want people to have fun with a chance of winning something. It is not a way of making money or getting rich quick.”
