Islander Rent-A-Car marks 35th anniversary

ISLANDER Rent-A-Car is celebrating its 35th year in business today, Nov. 15, by continuing to provide quality and affordable rental cars on Saipan, Tinian, Rota, and Guam.

Norma Marfega, president, said having a positive outlook and making sure that clients are satisfied with the service of her company remain her “formula for success.” This positive outlook has sustained the car rental shop through all the ups and downs over the years.

“Being positive allows you to realize that every problem has a solution,” she added.

She noted that Islander Rent-A-Car offers convenience to its customers who regularly go on inter-island travel.

“Clients from Saipan who are about to visit Tinian, Rota or Guam and need car rental services can easily reserve a vehicle from our Saipan office, and as soon as they arrive at their destination the car that they rented is ready,” she added.

Islander Rent-A-Car has booths at the airports of Saipan, Tinian, and Rota.

Marfega said her loyal employees and family members are also crucial to Islander Rent-A-Car’s success.

“Without their help, this business will not survive,” she added.

In 1984, her business opened on Saipan with only 10 units for rent. Today, Islander Rent-A-Car has a fleet of 100 cars for rent and has expanded to several other businesses such as CNMI Air Conditioning & Refrigeration, E-Center Ink Refilling & Computer Services, ASKS Fashion & Salon, Islander E-Process, Islander Mini-Mart, and a Western Union franchise.

“I have no plans of slowing down,” Marfega said. “We will continue providing the services and products that the community needs as long as we can.”

One of her plans is to expand her room-and-car package for tourists and local residents.

“On Saipan, we are offering a room-and-car package for $99 per day and hopefully in the near future we can expand to the hotel business,” she said.

Asked if she has advice to aspiring businesspersons, Marfega said one should always listen to clients and maintain a good relationship with them.

“That’s one way of keeping your business alive: always listen to the clients’ needs and suggestions. Be patient and always maintain high quality service.”

Marfega said she is very grateful to all her clients, especially those who have been patronizing her businesses all these years.
