‘Strides for the Cure’ 5K run/walk returns

THE “Strides for the Cure” 5K run/walk, which hosted more than 1,500 participants in 2005, will return to the streets of Pleasure Island in Tumon on Saturday, Oct. 20, according to a press release.
Participants from around the island will join together to celebrate cancer survivorship and to honor those who have lost their courageous battle with the disease.
“Strides for the Cure” is a fundraising event for the American Cancer Society, Guam Field Office. It is held in October to coincide with “Breast Cancer Awareness Month.” The goal is to raise funds for programs that increase the awareness of the risks of all types of cancer and to promote healthy lifestyle choices in an effort to decrease the rate of cancer on Guam.
The funds from Strides for the Cure are specifically designated for these programs on Guam, to help the community battle the disease.
We all know someone that has been touched by this disease — our family, friends, neighbors, and employees — young and old, male and female. Whether a survivor or someone you know is a survivor or a victim of cancer, we can all join together to celebrate and commemorate.
On Saturday, the showtime will be at 5:15 a.m., and the go time will be at 6 a.m., at the Pleasure Island Outrigger Resort Guam
