SAIPANS gracious and
welcoming atmosphere is the captivating spirit that encouraged me to work
here since 2003. My local employer is very workable and taught me how
to speak and live like a Carolinian. Parties at the beach, reggae and
chacha music during events are unforgettable moments that I will cherish
in my lifetime. My Chamorita girlfriend told me that the economy will
get better soon as her uncle promised to work hard for more Saipan investments.
I am very much thankful for my Chamolinian friends for making me feel
at home by sharing with me their culture as well as their dreams of working
with their soon to be Korean employer who will be building a big hotel
in San Antonio.
I have stayed and worked in Saipan for more than four years now and I
am very much saddened by the fact that I will not be included in the 5
years and above contract worker category that will eventually give them
the right to work, live and stay anywhere in the U.S. My local girlfriend,
however, ease out my disappointment as her Uncle is currently making progress
in delaying the federal takeover of Saipan which will last for God knows
when. I just need to wait for six months of delay and I will soon be included
with the rest of the lucky ones. I envy my great buddies Roy, Gina, Cris
and Mark, for being lucky a week ago and I hope luck wont run out
as long as you do good as a person, work well for the benefit of your
employment, no vices, discos, and demanding girlfriends that will get
you into trouble with the police.
Six months is a short time to wait for hundreds like me who are waiting
for federalization. Three months ago its roughly 7,987 qualified
aliens, now 8,500, soon maybe 10,000 of us. The more skilled workers for
Saipan, the better for America.
Thank you Gov. Ben Fitial for giving us (the soon to be lucky ones) a
chance to reach our fifth year of service in the commonwealth. We promise
to be of great use to the CNMI and we will stay to reap the benefits of
our sacrifices. We are one with you in believing that the islands need
foreign workers to survive and thrive so we (the contract workers) are
so lucky to have you on our side. More power to your efforts Mr. Governor
and dont be dissuaded by the likes of those people who want federal
takeover pronto! You are our only hope Mr. Governor. May God bless you.
