Parlor keeps customers hair to help children

A BEAUTY parlor in As Lito will donate three feet of hair cut from its customers to Locks of Love, a Florida-based public non-profit organization that provides hair pieces to poor children.
Locks of Love collects hair from parlors to help children with Alopecia areata, a form of hair loss, often from the scalp.
About 4.7 million people all over the world suffer from the condition, according to Rosemond B. Santos who was having her hair cut at Juannys Hair Salon yesterday.
It was Santos who urged the hair salon owner, Juanny Torres, to donate hair to Locks of Love.
Parlors that participate in the campaign, Santos said, are provided with a Locks of Love logo that can be displayed at the establishment.
Santos said she learned about the existence of this group in church when she was studying law at the University of Denver in Colorado.
A loyal customer of Juanny’s Hair Salon, Santos said she wants the local community to learn how they can contribute to a worthy cause.
Hair stylist Josie Segorora said several of their customers have agreed to donate their hair.
“We had three today who donated their hair, one last week and two three months ago,” she said.
