GOVERNOR Benigno R. Fitial
yesterday declared November Education Month and was asked to commit
$500 for the Education Day celebrations next month.
The 2007 teacher of the year, Acelia Dela Cruz, asked for a donation from
the governor during the proclamation signing.
Consider it done! the governor told the Public School System
principals and teacher of the year nominees who witnessed the proclamation
signing.
Fitial said education plays an important role in society and Education
Month is set aside to recognize those who have contributed to the development
of the islands education system.
It provides an opportunity to increase public awareness of the role
of education in the society and to promote closer cooperation and stronger
relationships between educators and the community at large, Fitial
said.
He designated Nov. 21 as Education Day which will be celebrated at Dandan
Elementary School and include the announcement of this years outstanding
teacher, teacher aide and support staffer.
The governor at the same time designated Oct. 21-27 as CNMI Safe Schools
Week.
Fitial said education, law enforcement and other government officials
should eagerly collaborate with each other to focus public attention
on school safety and identify, develop and promote innovative ways to
address (safery) concerns.
During yesterdays ceremony, the governor, Education Commissioner
David M. Borja and Finance Secretary Eloy Inos, awarded certificates to
the winning schools in this years logo-making contest.
This years theme is One Drop of Education Leads to a Pool
of Success an entry from San Vicente Elementary School.
Chosen second and third best themes were Tanapag Elementarys Education:
Let the Children of Today Dream of a Hopeful Tomorrow, and Oleais
Education: Learn it, Love it, and Live it!
