JUNIOR and high
school students from the Seventh Day Adventist school yesterday asked
CNMI lawmakers questions about their work in the Legislature.
Led by SDA teacher Sean Maycock, 16 seventh to 10th graders inquired about
the lawmakers functions.
Responding to their questions were Reps. Arnold I. Palacios, R-Saipan,
Cinta M. Kaipat, Covenant-Saipan, Ramon A. Tebuteb, R-Saipan, Stanley
T. Torres, Ind.-Saipan, Francisco S. Dela Cruz, Covenant-Saipan, Manuel
A. Tenorio, R-Saipan, and Ray N. Yumul, R-Saipan.
The activity was part of a school trip and a requirement for Maycocks
history class.
According to eighth grader Keisuke Yoshida, the experience was memorable
for them as they were given the opportunity to meet with the leaders of
the CNMI.
This is my first time to come to the legislative building and its
really a memorable experience. I know that the leaders are always fully
occupied but weve given the chance to meet with them and ask questions
in order for us to better understand the important roles they play in
the community, Yoshida told Variety.
He said they appreciated the attention that lawmakers gave to them.
An aspiring future lawmaker, Yoshida said he believes that the noble thing
about elected leaders is that they make a difference in the lives
of the people.
During the one-hour meeting in the House chamber, each lawmaker was asked
questions about drafting and passing legislation relative to specific
bills they authored.
The lawmakers were also asked for their personal views on their lawmaking
experience, politics in general and goals.
