THE Navy will
again perform a partial production shutdown of its water treatment plant
today and on April 4.
According to the Navys public affairs office, the production shutdowns
are necessary to ensure the safety of divers performing underwater construction
at the reservoir.
By carefully managing water inventory, and by maintaining partial production
from springs, the Navy assured that it will be able to continue providing
full water service to all customers.
Normal flow to the Guam Waterworks Authority will be maintained during
the plant shutdown.
The Navy also assured that water from the Navys reservoir tanks
will continue to supply Guams electrical plants at Cabras, Piti
and Tanguisson, firefighting systems, and U.S. Naval Hospital Guam.
The shutdowns are planned one day apart to allow for sufficient recovery
of stored water and to minimize the inconvenience to customers.
According to the Navy, the scheduled outages are necessary to facilitate
Navy Water Treatment Plant upgrades, which will improve treatment processes,
modernize process control instrumentation, and provide redundancy. The
end result of the upgrades will be better, more reliable water service
to Navy customers.
