Guam’s own Final Four is set

Well it may not be Georgetown vs. Ohio St. or Florida vs. UCLA it is set.
The 2007 Beacon Invitational Tournament is down to its final four teams as the Agueda Johnston Pirates will face the Untalan Middle School Wildcats and the St. Anthony School Raiders will match up against the Andersen Middle School Dragons. The tournament always showcases the young talent that is to be the islands future basketball players.
The Andersen Dragons would propel themselves into the final four when they defeated the St. Francis Crusaders winning 33-22. Dragons were led to the victory by Joseph Jenkins who scored 14 points and Jeston Baldonado who added another 7 points.
The Crusaders were led by Anthony Aguon who scored 11 of the Crusaders 22 points. The Untalan Wildcats would have to play smart in order to advance past the Oceanview Middle School Knights. The Knights after being down by 10 at the half would surge back to within 4 with time ticking away.
The Knights would go on an 8-1 run with time running out in the third quarter. The Wildcats’ Kory Borja would stop the run with a couple of back to back baskets to give the Wildcats some breathing room going into the fourth. The fourth would become a game of possession with the Wildcats milking the clock to the win. With forty seconds left the Knights’ Jared Sanchez would hit a three to bring the Knights within four but the Wildcats would hold on to win 41-36. The Wildcats led by Borja’s 14 points advance to the final four. The Agueda Johnston Pirates would upset their way into the final four when they beat the Benavente Middle School Roadrunners.
The Roadrunners as the public-school regular season champs were the favorite to make it to the finals going into the tournament. The Pirates were led by JeCarlo Palomo and Peter Aguon who would score 21 of the Pirates 33 points would beat the Roadrunners 33-25 to advance to the Final Four.
The fourth team to advance to the final four is the St. Anthony Raiders led by Danilo Rapadas who had 13 points, nine rebounds, and three blocked shots would breeze past the Bishop Obispos despite Tano Paul’s seven points seven board effort. The Raiders’ John Ilao would contribute 13 points in the win.
The Semifinals are set to play on Thursday April 5th with the Pirates taking on the Wildcats at 6:00pm followed by the Raiders and Dragons at 7:00 pm at the Tamuning Gym.
Friday will be the Championship and Consolation games with the Consolation Game at 5:30pm and the Championship at 7:00 pm.
