SOUTHERN High
made a wonderful debut in the Karerån Galaide season opener on Saturday
morning as they took first in both the Girls and Mixed events of the Setteru
races. This is the first year that Southern will participate in the Karerån
Galaide along with Guam High.
The season began with the 500m Boys Setteru race where the George Washington
Geckos came in first with a time of 1:53 and the John F. Kennedy Islanders
and the Simon Sanchez Sharks coming in second and third with the times
of 1:56 and 2:02 respectively.
In the Setteru Girls 500m the Southern High Dolphins took first while
paddling with only five girls instead of the normal six girl crew. The
Dolphins would finish with a time of 2:33 for the race but take an overall
place of 2nd.
The Geckos, who would place second in the race with a time 2:37 but takes
the overall lead in the points standings with the Notre Dame Royals
taking third in both the opening race and the overall standings.
The Setteru 500m Mixed race showed similar results with the Dolphins taking
first and the Geckos following in second with times of 2:07 and 2:11.
However the Islanders would place third with a time of 2:15.
In the Manohoben Boys 500m the Sharks would place first with the Father
Duenas Friars and the Royals coming in second and third.
For the Manohoben Girls 500m race there were only two teams competing
and the Islanders would barely beat out the Royals for first place with
the times of 2:51 and 2:53. And in the Manohoben Mixed 500m the Sharks
would place first with the Friars and the Royals coming in second and
third.
The next race will be on April 14th at Matapang Beach Park.
