THE defending champion SAIPANCELL Patriots toyed around with the A’s posting a 31-1 victory in the Majors division of the 2007 Saipan Little League Baseball tournament last Saturday at the Miguel “Tan Ge” Basa Pangelinan Ballfield.
The victory was the Patriots’ seventh in as many games.
Ray Tenorio was the Pats’ starting pitcher last Saturday and together with relief pitcher Jared Sablan allowed no hits and gave up seven walks. Tenorio pitched in the first two innings and had four strikeouts, while Sablan was on the mound in the last two innings and also had four strikeouts.
Jun David scored the A’s lone run at the bottom of the fourth on a shortstop error.
Pats shortstop Jeremy Rabauliman outscored the entire A’s crew, as he made four inside-the-park homers. Rabauliman was 5-for-6 at the plate and had a double.
The defending champions had 12 inside-the-park homers frustrating the A’s pitchers Jun David and David Ada all throughout the game.
Pats first baseman Brian Camacho and Tenorio had two inside-the-park homers apiece. Camacho went 5-for-5 with a single, double, a triple and three RBIs, while Tenorio was 4-for-5 with two singles and three RBIs.
Third baseman Chris Mizer, leftfielder Jun Rabauliman, centerfielder Lamarc Iguel and rightfielder Jonathan Camacho had one inside-the-park homer each.
Iguel was also perfect at the plate going 5-for-5 with two doubles, a triple, a single and five RBIs.
In other results, the Kautz Glass/ Patriots downed the San Antonio Dragons, 13-9, the Twins topped the Jets, 15-4, and the Ol’Aces II clobbered the Little Legals, 21-3.
After a slow start scoring only one run in the first inning, the Ol’Aces II picked up the pace in the second inning.
At the bottom of the second, the Ol’Aces II had seven runs against the Little Legals’ one at the top of the second.
The Little Legals never recovered from thereon, as the Ol’Aces II added 13 more runs at the bottom of the third. The Ol’Aces wrapped up the match after only three and a half innings, as they held the Little Legals from scoring a run at the top of the fourth.
TJ Sablan led the Ol’Aces II’s offense going 3-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, a triple and four RBIs.
In the Juniors division, the Fielders slipped past the Hustlers, 6-5.
Tom Agulto went 2-for-4 for the Fielders and had two runs, two doubles and two RBIs.
The Fielders shut out the Hustlers in the first three innings and withstood the latter’s rally in the last four innings to escape with a one-point win.
