THE Cyclones posted back-to-back victories, while the Ol’Aces won their debut in the SAIPANCELL/BANMI 25-and-under Basketball League after prevailing over separate opponents last Saturday at the Gilbert C. Ada Gym.
Ringo Reyes scored 32 points to power the Ol’Aces to a 67-64 win over the Cholos in the first game.
Reyes drilled seven of the Ol’Aces’ last 11 points, including a 3-point play to lead his team to a three-point win.
The Ol’Aces and the Cholos engaged in a neck-and-neck battle as both teams struggled offensively.
The first quarter ended with the Cholos up by only two, 17-15, but they lost the lead at halftime when Ton Borja nailed five of his eight points in the second quarter to give the Ol’Aces a 33-29 cushion.
The Cholos regained the lead at the end of the third period, 51-49, despite Reyes’ 12-point explosion in that canto.
Reyes continued leading the Ol’Aces’ offense adding 12 more markers in the final canto to give his team a good start in the youth caging.
J-Boy Deleon Guerrero chipped in 13 markers for the Ol’Aces, while Syl Teregeyo paced the Cholos with 20 points.
In the second game, the Cyclones gained their second straight victory after whipping the Hoopaholics, 67-54.
With the win, the Cyclones, who prevailed over Hi-Five, 69-53, in the league opener on March 24, temporarily hold the lead in the 10-team field.
John and Josh Sablan joined forces in giving the Cyclones a 2-0 start as they combined for 29 points.
John had three triples and finished with 15 points, while Josh contributed 14.
The Cyclones held the Hoopaholics to 10 points in each of the first three quarters and entered the fourth period with a comfortable 47-30 advantage.
The Hoopaholics never recovered from thereon and dropped to a 1-1 slate. The Hoopaholics won their debut against the G-Stars, 61-51, on March 24.
Hi-Five and 670 played in the third game last Saturday, but the results of the match were unavailable at press time.
