Typhoon delays Congressional delegation visit, scoping meetings

By Gerardo R. Partido
Variety News Staff

A CONGRESSIONAL delegation, led by Congressman Solomon Ortiz, D-Tx, chairman of the Subcommittee on Readiness, which was to have arrived today, still plans to visit Guam.
According to Congresswoman Madeleine Z. Bordallo’s office, the congressional delegation will most likely arrive on Guam this Wednesday, April 4.
In light of current weather conditions, the events planned for today have been cancelled.
Depending on post-storm conditions and the delegation’s actual arrival, a compressed schedule of events is being planned now, according to Bordallo’s chief of staff, John Whitt.
More information will be released as conditions allow.
The congressional delegation includes Bordallo, Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez, D-Ca, and Congressman Joe Wilson, R-S.C.
Also postponed because of the adverse weather conditions are the scoping meetings planned for Guam, Saipan and Tinian.
The meetings were being conducted to allow for public comment on the Environmental Impact Statement in support of the proposed military relocation in the Mariana Islands.
