President Remengesau
on Tuesday accepted the credentials of the first non-resident Ambassador
of the Republic of Austria to Palau.
The president received the credentials of Herbert Jager of Austria in
the presidents office in Melekeok witnessed by Remengesau cabinet
members.
The president said Palau is asking assistance from Austria to further
define its continental shelf beyond the Exclusive Economic Zone.
The president also said that Palau is impressed with Austria is the largest
troop contributor to the United Nations Peacekeeping Operatopms.
"This is highly commendable aspect of your foreign policy. Palau
also attaches great importance to the United Nations and its missions,
placing particular importance on the promotion of, and respect for international
law and human rights," Remengesau said.
Jager for his part said that Palau and Austria has common interest to
address issues on environment and tourism.
He said both countries also advocate for a strong independence and is
both working to explore areas of cooperation.
