An official
from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization
expressed assurances that the children of Palau will get a better education
as the school principals and administrators conclude their five-day seminar
today at the Mings Court of Palasia Hotel.
"We just wanted to know that the public will be getting the best
from the school principals after the seminar. We can expect the improvement
of students performance," thus said Yayoi Segi-Vltchek, Education
Advisor of UNESCOs Office for the Pacific States.
The workshop is entitled "Planning, Management, Evaluation: The Principal
Standards in Action" with Dr. Sharon Camblin of Change Systems for
Educators as resource speaker.
The training is set from March 26-30 and co-sponsored by the Ministry
of Education, UNESCO and funded by the Government of Japan.
The participants that also included the management team of the MOE headed
by Minister Mario Katosang, Director Emery Wenty, Chiefs Sinton Soalablai,
Raynold Mechol, Debbie Sbal and Theodore Rengulbai.
Segi-Vltchek said that after this workshop the principals would decide
on their own work plan and how to improve on their performance.

She said that UNESCO would expect Palau to come-up with a manual within
three to four months to be ready for next school year on the context of
what had been discussed during the five-day workshop.
"The principals learned that there are more work to be done,"
she said.
She said she expects that the principals will use that manual as well
as the incoming ones.
UNESCO is also expecting them to formulate a school improvement plan soon.
Segi-Vltchek said that there will be two more training in Palau to be
conducted based on the feedback and assessment from the management team.
