An official from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization expressed assurances that the children of Palau will get a better education as the school principals and administrators conclude their five-day seminar today at the Ming’s Court of Palasia Hotel.
"We just wanted to know that the public will be getting the best from the school principals after the seminar. We can expect the improvement of students’ performance," thus said Yayoi Segi-Vltchek, Education Advisor of UNESCO’s Office for the Pacific States.
The workshop is entitled "Planning, Management, Evaluation: The Principal Standards in Action" with Dr. Sharon Camblin of Change Systems for Educators as resource speaker.
The training is set from March 26-30 and co-sponsored by the Ministry of Education, UNESCO and funded by the Government of Japan.
The participants that also included the management team of the MOE headed by Minister Mario Katosang, Director Emery Wenty, Chiefs Sinton Soalablai, Raynold Mechol, Debbie Sbal and Theodore Rengulbai.
Segi-Vltchek said that after this workshop the principals would decide on their own work plan and how to improve on their performance.
The principals she said
She said that UNESCO would expect Palau to come-up with a manual within three to four months to be ready for next school year on the context of what had been discussed during the five-day workshop.
"The principals learned that there are more work to be done," she said.
She said she expects that the principals will use that manual as well as the incoming ones.
UNESCO is also expecting them to formulate a school improvement plan soon.
Segi-Vltchek said that there will be two more training in Palau to be conducted based on the feedback and assessment from the management team.
