POLICE arrested
a man believed to have grabbed a womans purse a month ago in Garapan.
John Benjamin John, 28, was arrested on Friday by personnel of the Department
of Public Safetys Criminal Investigation Bureau .
John was brought to Superior Court for a bail hearing on Monday afternoon.
He was remanded to the custody of the Department of Corrections after
the bail hearing.
John is a suspect in a robbery incident that happened on Feb. 22 near
the USSP Club in western Garapan.
The affidavit of Detective Roy Kaipat stated that the victim, Madoka Hosotani,
had just left the GIG Club at 12:50 a.m. and was walking toward her vehicle
which was parked west of the USSP Club.
As the victim walked south toward her vehicle, she noticed a sedan behind
her traveling slowly.
The car stopped and a man got out of the vehicle, walked up to her from
behind and grabbed her purse.
The victim struggled with the suspect and fell to the ground.
The man managed to pull the purse away from the victim and got back into
the car and fled from the scene.
The suspect was later identified as John.
The victim lost several keys, a Guess wallet containing $60 to $80 in
cash, ATM Cards, a drivers license and an Olympus digital camera.
She sustained injuries to her knees, right shoulder and inner portion
of her left arm, left middle finger and neck.
The affidavit stated that John was with Tanny Sachuo when he committed
the offense.
Sachuo and John were planning to head to USSP Club for a couple of drinks.
As they were heading to the club, John stopped the vehicle and got out
of the car.
The affidavit stated that Sachuo was seated in the front passenger seat
and was putting on his shoes when he saw John taking the womans
purse.
Sachuo got out of he car and ran away from the area.
