Minor assaults school aide

By Trina A. San Agustin
Variety News Staff

A MINOR assaulted a 37-year-old school aide at a Jose Rios Middle School dance on Friday afternoon, according to Guam Police Department public information officer Allan Guzman.
The school aide, who was a chaperone at the dance, noticed three minor boys fighting. When the school aide tried to stop the altercation, a 15-year-old boy punched him, according to Guzman.
The man received some contusions to the head as a result of the incident. The case has since been handed over to the Juvenile Investigation Section of GPD.
Hotel storage container burglarized
GPD is looking for the individual(s) responsible for taking two large 32-inch LCD television sets from a storage container at the site of the Sheraton Hotel, formerly Palace Hotel in Tamuning.
Guzman told Variety that the crime took place between March 30 and the 31.
The storage container was secured with a simple padlock. Individuals at the hotel had stored the television sets the night prior to the burglary.
Police ask the public for any information on this case by calling GPD at 472-8911 or Crime Stoppers at 477-HELP (4357). Crime Stoppers does not use a caller ID and you do not have to leave your name.
Guzman said the suspects may be trying to sell the items to people. Individuals caught purchasing stolen items also face criminal charges.
Car thefts on the rise
GPD’s Guzman said police officers throughout the island have been responding to about 45 car thefts or car break-ins per day.
He advised vehicle owners to be more vigilant when leaving their vehicle.
“Try not to afford these would-be-suspects the opportunity to break in or steal your vehicle. When you leave your vehicle, the suspect is watching your moves. If you leave something of value in your car, they will take it,” Guzman said.
