China has strengthened its bilateral relationship with Papua
New Guinea when it signed a 20 million yuan ($2.5 million) agreement toward
developmental projects in PNG.
The vice premier of the state council of China, Zeng Peiyan, and PNG Foreign
Affairs Secretary Gabriel Pepson signed the economic and technical cooperation
agreement on Friday.
Two letters of exchanges for implementing the Usino Junction/Yamagi road
project in Madang province and for the rehabilitation and extension of
the Highlands Agriculture Institute in Western Highlands province were
also signed.
The cooperation agreements between the two countries were signed during
a two-day visit to PNG by Zeng and his delegation which comprised of state
ministers, vice ministers and head of organizations from both public and
private sectors.
The PNG delegation led by Pepson included Deputy Prime Minister and Transport
and Civil Aviation Minister Don Polye, Foreign Affairs and Trade Minister
Paul Tiensten, Mining Minister Sam Akoitai, Works Minister Gabriel Kapris
and Commerce and Industry Minister Michael Nali.
Also last Friday, Polye and Zeng held bilateral discussions on several
topics which included stocktake of trade, economic and technical cooperation
commitments, regional and multilateral relations and also an overview
of PNG/China bilateral relations.
