D-9ers, Islanders gain second win; fast-pitch softball games cancelled

THE defending champion D-9ers grabbed the lead in the Men’s Fast-pitch Softball League, while the Islanders ended Proa’s two-game winning streak last Thursday at the Miguel “Tan Ge” Basa Pangelinan Ballfield.
The Islanders pulled off a 9-7 win over Proa handing the latter its first loss in three games. The Islanders and Proa are now tied in second place with a 2-1 record.
The D-9ers grabbed the solo lead, as they improved to a 2-0 slate after topping Che’luus in the second game, 9-4.
Jerome Delos Santos hit two homers, one inside the park and one over the fence, to keep the defending champions’ record clean.
Delos Santos went 3-fo-r4 with three runs and three RBIs.
Mel Sakisat and Tony Camacho also helped the D-9ers’ cause, as they both went 2-for-3 at the plate. Sakisat added two runs, two doubles and an RBI, while Camacho nailed one run, a triple and three RBIs.
Che’luus’ RD Maratita hit the second over-the-fence homer and had two RBIs. Jess Cabrera and John Maratita both went 1-for-2 at the plate. John also scored a run, while Cabrera hit a triple and had one RBI.
Joe Tudela led the Islanders’second victory as he went 3-for-4 at the plate with two runs, a triple and an RBI.
Manny Tenorio and Reno Celis both went 2-for-3 with the former scoring two runs and the latter adding one run and an RBI.
Ben Duenas was 2-for-4 with a run and two doubles, while Ed Kapileo also went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.
Ivan Igitol was the top batter for Proa hitting 3-for-4 with two runs.
Manny Sablan and Jay Camacho were both 2-for-4 at the plate with the latter scoring two RBIs and the former having one RBI.
Meanwhile, tournament organizers cancelled yesterday’s games due to the bad weather.
The D-9ers were supposed to meet Proa in the first game, while the Tanapag Falcons were set to face Che’luus in the second match.
There will be no games tomorrow and action in the annual tournament will resume next week.
