THE Marianas Racing Association is skipping the Smokin’ Wheels on Guam and instead will be holding two point races this month.
The decision to hold two races in April was reached during the general membership meeting held last Sunday at the Cowtown Raceway Park in Marpi.
According to MRA secretary Eleanor Cepeda, since they did not hold a race in March they decided to schedule two races this month
This month’s races are set for April 15 and 29th.
MRA did not hold a March point race, as it staged exhibition races on Rota from March 10 and 11 in celebration of the San Isidro Fiesta in Sinapalo.
“The extra race will make up for the March point race,” Cepeda said in an email.
Riders will earn points in the two races and these will be added to the points they gained in the January and February races.
At the end of the season, the rider with the most points will be awarded the No. 1 plate in his division.
Before the exhibition races in Rota, the last time MRA riders competed in a monthly race was Feb. 17.
Winners of the February races were Manny Flores, Ellery Cruz, Shane Alvarez Henry Camacho, Edinna Cepeda, Lorenzo Sablan, Britney Camacho, Sheanna Pangelinan, Nathan Quitano and Steve Sablan.
Flores ruled the 80-85 cc expert class, while Cruz and Alvarez topped the 125-250 expert and novice classes, respectively.
Henry won the B/B ATV, Lorenzo prevailed in the PW-80, Britney dominated the Mini-ATV class, Sheanna ruled the powerpuff division, Quitano topped the 80-85cc novice division and Steve claimed the 125-250 veteran class win.
Since the first race for this month is scheduled for April 15, MRA riders will not be able to make it to the 25th edition of the Smokin’ Wheels, which will run from April 13 to 15 at Calvo Memorial Off Road Park in Yigo.
The biggest motorsports event in the Pacific will feature riders from the US, Japan and the Philippines.
The three-day event will have competitions in off-road buggies, trucks, atvs, mini-bikes, and motocross. It will also showcase 4X4 rock crawling and mud-bog drag racing, auto-x and two nights of drag racing.
