THE United States
Coast Guard said the two individuals aboard a sailboat in distress were
located 340 nautical miles north east of Guam.
According to U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer Christopher Cruz, the two
individuals were in good condition.
According to Cruz, the vessel, the Tititata, sustained damage to its mast
as Typhoon Kong-Rey passed through the area earlier this week.
A good Samaritan vessel, the Kiwi Breeze, responded to the U.S.
Coast Guard urgent marine information broadcast and offered to help as
he was closer to the Tititata, Cruz told Variety.
The Coast Guard was going to use their vessel, the Cutter Assateague,
but they accepted the offer made by the crew of the Kiwi Breeze to pick
up the two individuals.
The rescued crewmembers will be onboard the Kiwi Breeze during the
duration of their trip to Auckland, Australia, Cruz added.
The sailboat was making its way to Japan when its mast broke and the vessel
developed engine problems.
The identities of the crewmembers were not available as of press time.
