Getting personal

SOME folks are complaining about the comments posted on PDN message boards and made the point that at least on Newstalk K-57, they (SMG) removed them.
But do people hear what is said over the airwaves as of late? Here are some tidbits for your personal consumption: One caller said something about the color of Sen. Judi Guthertz’s hair and went on to say: “Hey, Homeland Security, knock it off.” Whether it is meant as a joke or an insidious attempt to “defrock” a sitting legislator, (Republicans do that all the time in the mainland by getting personal with Democratic leaders so as to minimize their professional accomplishments; so that folks have a harder time taking them seriously.)
You just don’t hear or read personal attacks against conservatives. If someone from the left do get personal, conservatives rush to defend their own and attack that person. One conservative host even told a caller that he is “with all due respect selling trash on Trader Horn.” I thought that is what was sold on Trader Horn. “One man’s trash.”
So if it is “anything goes” when it comes to speech is it also “anything goes” when it comes to the written word? More callers expressing their frustration with the leadership by getting personal: “You are going to hell, Gov. Camacho.” Not personal: “I will start impeachment against you, governor.” Which is really no different from the polite PDN editorials put it when they say these words: “Step down, so-called leaders, inaction!” without getting personal.
It’s been said no one ever rioted for austerity measures because folks “riot” for better working conditions, higher pay, good healthcare. That is one reason why Doug Moylan (and Underwood) lost. No borrowing. People want to live off borrowing. They already do it at the individual level, so why not the government?
