Public Utilities Corporation during last Tuesdays (March 27) special
session.
The Senate convened the second day of the 24th special session with Acting
Vice President Mlib Tmetuchl presiding.
Members of the Palau High School Self-Study Accreditation Committee and
Palau High School faculty, parents, and students were special guests in
the public gallery.
With a quorum of seven members, the Senate confirmed the appointments
of Arvin Raymond and Mariana Espangel to the Board of Directors of Palau
National Communications Corporation (PNCC), with both individuals receiving
unanimous votes of approval.
Sen. Alfonso N. Diaz, Chairman of the Committee on Resources, Commerce,
Trade, and Development said "these appointments will allow a quorum
in the PNCC Board and allow PNCC to continue to improve itself as a public
service to Palauans."
The appointment of Terangue Gillham to the Board of the Palau Public Utilities
Corporation did not get enough votes with 5 yes and two No. Six votes
are needed to confirm such appointment. Sen. Santy Asanuma took the floor
for a motion for consideration for next Senate session.
The Senate also passed on Second Reading Senate Bill No. 7-26, SD1 "Statistics
Act of 2006" and Senate Bill No. 7-129, SD1 "To prohibit the

commented that SB7-26, SD1 would allow for the compilation of comprehensive

which will be an important resource to development planning. The Senate
also passed House Joint Resolution No. 7-59-27S expressing condolences
to the family of the late Steven B. Nakamura.
