A TWO-STORY building in Chalan
Kanoa, the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library and several other buildings and
establishments in the area have been vandalized.
The vandalism was discovered by the owner of one of the buildings on Wednesday
night.
The owner, who asked for anonymity, said that when he arrived at his property
at 11:40 p.m., he found graffiti on its white walls.
The graffite read books! f-sois! chuuk!
The owner said he now spends the night at this property which has been
burglarized in the past.
The owner said he lost some tools to the burglars.
The owner said the last time he visited the building was before Typhoon
Kong-Rey.
The two-story building is across from the Korean Catholic Church in Chalan
Kanoa.
The building was built for a restaurant and poker business which never
opened and is now for lease.
The walls of nearby Mt. Carmel School and some establishments in the area
were also vandalized.
The public library in Susupe was vandalized too, and the graffiti on its
walls was similar to that on the walls of the structures in Chalan Kanoa.
The Chalan Kanoa building owner said he has reported the incident to the
Department of Public Safety.
While he was talking to this reporter, a young man who lives in the neighborhood
approached and offered help.
The neighbor said he was willing to repaint the walls.
Its an eyesore and I really hate it when I see something like
this. I have extra white paint in our house, I could repaint it if you
want, the neighbor told the building owner.
The owner expressed gratitude to his neighbor, but told him that he had
already called his carpenter to fix it.
