President Johnny Reklai.
A member of the 2005 Second Constitutional Convention, Baules filed his
candidacy with the Election Commission at exactly 11 a.m.
Following the untimely passing away of Reklai on March 11, the Senate
adopted on March 14 resolution declaring a vacancy as well as a call for
a special nationwide election to be held on May 9.
The deadline for filing is on April 24.
Qualifications for membership in the Olbiil Era Kelulau stated that "he/she

a resident of Palau for not less than five years immediately preceding
the election, a resident of the state in which he/she is seeking office
for not less than one year immediately preceding the election, a registered
voter of the state or senatorial district which he or she seeks to represent."
The remaining term of the vacant position is one year and eight months
before the next congressional election on November 2008.
