AFTER serving more than 20
years at the Commonwealth Ports Authority, deputy director Reno Celis
has retired to seek other opportunities.
Celis submitted his letter of retirement to CPA executive director Clyde
Norita last month and it was accepted by the board.
His last day at CPA will be on Friday, April 13.
The agency is expected to name an acting official as his replacement.
CPA comptroller George Palican and Norita resigned earlier.
But Celis said his decision is not related to anything that is happening
at the agency.
I want to try other fields outside CPA, he said.
Celis has applied for the station managers position at Freedom Air
and is awaiting the decision of the management.
I am currently negotiating with the company, he said.
Celis started working for CPA in Aug. 1978 in general maintenance. He
was later named airport manager and became the agencys operations
manager in 1994.
He served as deputy director for four years and was named acting executive
director for a couple of months.
My experience with CPA has been tremendous and I enjoyed working
with the agencys men and women in different capacities, Celis
said.
I have seen how it all started here at the airport and I can say
that a lot of progress and development has taken place. I am proud and
happy to have been a part of CPA and what it is now, Celis said.
He declined to comment on the rift between Norita and the board.
I am not in the position to comment on what is happening between
them, but I am optimistic that whatever problem they are facing will come
to a solution in the best interests of CPA, Celis said.
