AMERICORPS members from Rota
Junior High School have taken advantage of spring break to provide community
service, according to a media release.
The members implemented their service learning project titled Somewhere
Out There, and the goal was to paint a mural of the Solar System
in the Rota Junior High School science classroom.
The planets were shown relative to the size of the Earth. The measurements
were done by the RJHS science class students during a science class lesson.
The Americops members, Denise Mendiola, Roger Sabangan, Bianca Mendiola
and Mario Aspacio all senior students at Rota High School
will accumulate service learning hours. Upon completion of the total hours
required and upon graduation, they will qualify to apply for scholarships.
Their project was made possible with the assistance of Sen. Paul A. Manglona,
R-Rota, who provided paint and a professional artist who conducted a mini-art
workshop and provided guidance.
Rota Municipal Council chairman Joey Q. Quitugua also donated paint and
other project related materials.
It was a great learning experience for the members. They hope to do more
service learning projects in the future.
