PCC tightens grip of top by beating Kayangel

By Nazario Rodriguez Jr.
Horizon news staff

PCC Mesekiu tightened its grip of the top spot by beating Kayangel, 7-4, on Saturday in the ongoing third round of the 2007 Palau Major League at the Asahi Field.
With four games left on its way against Airai, Ngerbeched, Ngardmau and Ngaraard, PCC needs just one win to virtually clinch the pennant.
PCC defeated all four teams twice in the first two rounds.
Kayangel was the only team that gave PCC a loss during their second round match.
PCC, however, shrugged-off that stinging lone defeat on Saturday as it came back from a 3-2 deficit in the bottom of the first inning on the way to their 16th win in 17 outings so far this season.
Bedor Kyota and Dekei Ngiramengior came on board right in the top of the first inning aided by a grounder to the left by Melngis Uchel for a 2-0 lead.
But Kayangel scored in successions as Dastin scored the first run then Wiseman hitting it big with a homerun one run with Hadley on board.
Omsuul tied the count in third inning, Dekei scored anew in the fourth for PCC while Daitin tied it at 4-all but that was the best Kayangel could do as reinging MVP Ty Saiske scored in the fifth and sixth while Sureor put the icing on the cake with a homerun in the 10th for the final score.
However, Kayangel has the slim chance to tie PCC on top but only if PCC loses all its last four games while Kayangel must win all of its last four assignments.
Earlier, PCC nailed an easy 20-0 blanking off Peches on March 29 while Koror defeated Ngaraard, 22-12, on March 30.
Also on Saturday, Airai won over Peches, 25-15.
Interestingly, while PCC virtually clinched a play-off round berth, four teams are crowding each other for the other three slots.
Kayangel and Airai are tied with 12-5 while Ngerbeched is running fourth with 10-5 and Ngardmau is fifth with 8-8.
Peches (4-13), Koror (4-13) and Ngaraard (0-16) are virtually out in the running for a play-off round ticket.
As of presstime last night, Ngerbeched was playing against Ngaraard.
Ngardmau will take on Koror starting at 7 p.m. tonight while Ngerbeched faces Peches tomorrow.
This week’s other games will be between Kayanfel and Ngaraard on Thursday April 5 , between PCC and Airai on Friday March 6, between Ngerbeched and Koror at 1 p.m. and between Peches and Ngaraard at 3 p.m. on Saturday March 7.
