The Department of Public Health and Social Services’ Division of Senior Citizens is spearheading the celebration of the senior citizens month in May, which will be highlighted by recognition of the island’s centenarians, DPHSS acting director Art San Agustin announced.
The department is seeking nominations from the community for candidates eligible for the centenarian recognition award, which seeks to honor the island’s manamko’ "who have reached this milestone in their lives."
Eligible for nominations are Guam residents who are or will be 100 years old this year, San Agustin said.
Nominating forms are available at the island’s 12 senior citizens center or at the Division of Senior Citizens office located at the University Castle Mall Suite 8 in Mangilao. Deadline for submission of nomination is April 12.
The governor will sign a proclamation on April 19 declaring May as Senior Citizens Month.
