SENATOR Ray Tenorio,
R-Yigo, filed a resolution recognizing May 13 through 19 as Guam Police
Week, honoring every law enforcement officer on the island.
Resolution 26 honors the men and women of the Guam Police Department,
the Port Authority of Guam Police, and airport police officials for their
work in keeping the island community safe.
We just wanted to get the community prepared to honor the people
who respond to emergencies and keep the community safe, said Tenorio.
Public safety is important to the community.
The resolution also recognizes non-uniformed personnel who work closely
with uniformed officers.
GPD Chief Capt. Paul Suba said the department is excited about the upcoming
events commemorating those who provide safety to island residents.
These courageous men and women, coupled with the dedication of the
civilian and un-sworn personnel in our community who assist law enforcement
officers in performing essential functions in support of uniformed officers,
(lead) to the detention of offenders and the delivery of justice,
the resolution reads.
This is an annual event that recognizes law enforcement officials
deserving of this, Suba told Variety. We also want to do something
different this year by recognizing the families that support those in
law enforcement. Especially for those who have given the ultimate sacrifice:
their life.
As part of the Guam Police Week celebration, a service will be held on
May 15 for law enforcement officials who have given the ultimate
act of selflessness.
The event will take place at the Hagatna Police Memorial Monument on Peace
Officers Memorial Day.
Retired law enforcement officials will also be recognized for serving
the community.
GPD said a list of activities for Guam Police Week is forthcoming.
