MINORITY Leader Judi Won Pat, D-Malojloj, introduced a bill allowing the Guam Fire Department to re-hire retired firefighters to fill positions left vacant by call of duty with the U.S. military.
According to Bill 92, retired firefighters will be rehired with the ranks of fire service specialist and below, and will not be allowed to acquire sick and annual leave.
“The retired firefighter shall fill such a vacated position and shall be terminated when the incumbent returns to his/her duty from the military service,” the bill reads.
Bill 92 states that the retired personnel have to meet the requirements of firefighters with the exception of the written examination.
The retirees, according to the bill, will still be able to receive their retirement benefits.
