SAIPAN will have two more
representatives in the 25th Guam Smokin Wheels Extravaganza at the
Calvo Memorial Raceway Park in Yigo.
Marianas Racing Association secretary Eleanor Cepeda in an email to the
Variety yesterday said that Chris Alepuyo and Melvin Cepeda are also joining
the biggest race in the Pacific.
But Eleanor was quick to clarify that the two riders are not representing
MRA, as they will race under the Team Errico Banner joining Ellery Cruz.
Melvin and Alepuyo will be competing in the enduro race, while Cruz is
entered in the 125 expert class using his 125-250f.
With the addition of two MRA riders, the NMI now has 12 racers in the
2007 edition of the annual tournament.
The nine other riders will come from the Drag Racing Club of Saipan.
The DRCS delegation is composed of Kazu Ikeda (1972 Chevy El Camino) Jay
Jones (1993 Masza RX7 Turbo), Sang Kim/Luis Guerrero/Gus Camacho (1970
Datsun 510 Turbo), Steven Llagas/AJ Llagas (1989 Nissan Hardbody) Gerard
Benavente (1990 Toyota Hilux) and Paul Deleon Guerrero (1991 Acura Integra).
DRCS racers will be joining only the drag racing competition, which will
be held at the Circle K Drag Strip.
The Guam Smokin Wheels will run from April 13 to 15.
Joining the NMI and Guam riders in the three-day tournament are riders
from Japan, the US, Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand, Philippines, Taiwan
and Korea.
Guam Smokin Wheels will hold competitions in motocross, ATV, offroad
fast track rails and trucks, offroad obstacle/rock crawling, mud drag,
road track, drag racing, and RC racing.
Meanwhile, MRA is reminding its members of the first race this month on
April 15 at the Cowtown Raceway Park in Marpi.
Races begin at 11 a.m.
