Traders/PTI Cup badminton tournament set for April 19

(NMBF)—The Northern Marianas Badminton Federation will kick off its 2007 season with the Traders Insurance/PTI Cup on April 19 at the Gilbert C. Ada Gym.
The deadline for registration will be up to 5pm before the tournament starts on Thursday. Competitions will be held in men and women’s doubles, and mixed doubles in A, B, and C division.
Interested players can get in touch with any of the NMBF officers. The pairings in each division will be determined by draw lots.
The entrance fee is $25 in all divisions and it will include admission to the award banquet. A player who will compete in only one event will pay only $20.
The top three winners in the A division are assured of cash prizes.
The NMBF held the CNMI’s first ever badminton tournament in September last year on which four pairs were crowned champions in the men’s and women’s divisions.
Priyawathan Wijay and Diane Dar Juan took the men’s and women’s singles titles. Wijay added the men’sdoubles crown when the teamed up with Ryan Achas.
The pair of Janice Bungalos and Gigi Zapanta claimed the women’s doubles title. Bungalos paired with Macoi Aguda to reign supreme in the mixed doubles.

The group is holding daily practices from Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 11am at the Ada Gym. The weekend schedule is from 9am to 12noon.
In related news, the NMBF donated cleaning materials to the Sports and Recreation staff as part of its community project.
