GUAM roadways claimed the life of a 53-year-old pedestrian as he was crossing Route 10 in Leyang, Barrigada by the PNJ Store a little before 8 p.m. Tuesday. This brings to six the number of lives claimed by Guam roads.
The man’s name was not released pending notification of next of kin notification.
Guam Police Department Highway Patrol investigator Sgt. John Bagiforo said a 1999 Nissan Frontier pickup truck was traveling north towards Tiyan on the inner lane when the incident happened.
“The operator of the vehicle stated that he heard a loud thud and pulled over to see what it was,” Bagiforo told Variety.
The pedestrian was found on the shoulder of Route 10. Medical personnel arrived at the scene and transported the man to the Naval Regional Medical Center on Naval Hospital. He was pronounced dead at 2 a.m. Wednesday.
Bagiforo said the accident remains under investigation and they are also looking into whether speed and alcohol were contributing factors to the accident.
According to GPD Highway investigator Jed Santo Thomas, Tuesday’s accident is the second traffic fatality in two nights.
On Monday, April 9, the fifth life was claimed by a traffic accident on Route 1 in Tamuning by the Oceanview Apartments and the GTA offices.
