Vicky Ngiratkakl-Kanai has delivered the "State of the
State Address" in yesterdays ceremonies for the 17th Anniversary
celebration of the Airai State Constitution before top government officials,
including President Remengesau, and traditional leaders and residents
at the Bai-Ra-Melengel in Ordomel Hamlet.
Kanai became the first Governor to do so but the copy of the lengthy speech
was not yet available as of presstime.
Reading the Palauan version of the speech, Kanai identified accomplishments
under her leadership and as well as several litigation regarding land
disputes and other important issues confronting Airai State.
The ceremonies began at 10 a.m. with invocation and benediction administered
by Pastor Amador Ngirkelau.
The 7th Grade students of the Airai Elementary School led in the singing
of the National Anthem while Rebechall Takeo Ngirmekur, Historian representing
Airai State in the Palau Society of Historians, did the traditional chant.
Leo Ben Teriong, who was the master of ceremonies, co-chaired the Organizing
committee, along with Gov. Kanai.
In attendance aside from the President, were Vice President Elias Chin,
former Vice President Sandra Pirantozzi, Del. Kerai Mariur, Del. Flavian
Carlos, Del. Noah Secharraimul, Minister Victor Yano, Senators, Alan,
Seid, Alfonso Diaz and Mlib Tmetuchl.
Ambassadors Mark Bezner and Matthew S. Lee were also present.
Other leaders present were Governors Duane Hideo of Ngchesar, Yositaka
Adachi of Koror, Demei Obak of Aimeliik and Edwin Chokai of Kayangel.
The celebration was organized by the State Government of Aira in coordination
with the Belias Sports Association.
Part of the celebration will be sports competition starting today and
ending tomorrow at the Yelch Ball Field.
