A Taiwanese fishing vessel ran aground on Tuesday morning at the PMIC dock in Malakal.
Division of Marine Law Enforcement Chief Chief Ellender Ngirameketii said that at about 11 a.m. the division received a call that Chien Te Fa 8 , a fishing vessel, registered under PITI was stuck at the PMIC dock while trying to come in the area.
He said that the fishing vessel’s permit and licenses are in order and that the concerned government agencies are assessing the damages to the reef.
He said the vessel was on its way to the PMIC dock to drop a PMIC employee who they picked at high seas.
Ngirameketii said the employee was sick and that the PMIC asked PITI vessel to take him back to Koror.
He said the marine law enforcers immediately responded to the scene.
Ngirameketii said that there were no oil spill nor leaks as a result of the accident.
