Rivals keep winning as others try to catch-up

Division I leader Ngermid Rivals continued with their winning ways by beating the Surangel Suns, 96-93, on Monday March 2 and the Breakers, 93-81, on Wednesday as the other teams tried to catch-up in the ongoing 2007 Shell National Basketball League at the Palau National Gymnasium.
With the twin victories the Rivals are now 8-0 in the second round for a combined total of 16-1 record following its first round record of 8-1.
Jake led four others in double figures as the Rivals rallied from a 13-21 deficit in the first quarter in their game against the Suns. Spis Gordon, Javis Pedro and Ody Yalap had 17, 15 and 12 in that game alone.
Andy Johnson led the Suns with 35.
Jake led the Rivals anew with 26 points as they similarly recovered from a slow start before coming home with their secopnd win of the week against the Breakers. Javis and Spis had 18 and 14 while Scout Matsutaro and Elly chipped in 12 apiece while Taka Gibbons led the Breakers with 30 but his team failed to capitalized a 21-12 first quarter lead.
The Breakers also failed to duplicate their 86-81 victory over the Ranchers on Tuesday night.
Also on Tuesday night, the Styxers bucked a 11-26 first quarter deficit beat the Ididers, 85-82,
Also on Wednesday, the Islanders defeated the Ikelauans, 71-68, with Kelutel firing in 18 points.
Meda defeated defending champion Peched Raw, 83-74, also on Monday.
Bryan led three other players with Mike scoring 12, Clint Mersai 11 and Ziske Asanuma 11.
Sunshine Soalablai finished with 42 points, one of the seasons’ biggest score in a game, for Peched’s losing effort.
The current team standings after two rounds are Rivals (16-1), Breakers (11-6), Meda (9-7), Peched (9-7), Ididers (8-9), Styxers (8-8), Islanders (8-8), Ikelauans (6-10), Suns (6-10) and Ranchers (1-16).
In Division II, Ngiwal Central dealt the Stingers’ their first defeat in the second round with an 86-80 count on Wednesday night.
