DIVISION of Sports and Recreation staffer Elias Rangamar is reminding the public that the Oleai Sports Complex track and field facility will be closed this month from 4 to 7 p.m.
Rangamar said they are closing the facility to give way to the qualifying trials for the 2007 McDonald’s All Schools Track and Field Championships.
“We are asking the public’s cooperation and understanding,” Rangamar said.
A series of qualifiers started last Tuesday and will run until the first week of May.
Last Tuesday and yesterday, the Northern Marianas Athletics held qualifying trials for the 100m, 200m, 1500m and 4x100m relay races and long jump for 12-and-under 10-and-under and 8-and-under divisions.
The qualifiers for the junior high and high school divisions will start tomorrow, while student-athletes in the 12-and-under age group will have qualifying trials on April 16,17,18, 23,24,25 and 30 and on May 1 and 2.
Other qualifying trials for junior high and high school divisions are set for April 19, April 26 and May 3.
The qualifiers are being held to select six athletes in each age group who will compete in the running, jumping and throwing events in the All School trackfest on May 12.
NMA will be giving trophies to the top three schools in each age group, while medals await the top finishers in each event.
The top three schools will be determined via a point system. NMA will award points to student-athletes depending on how they finish in the race.
