Reyes: Some vendors reject gov’t account

THE administration says it does not favor Fiesta Resort & Spa over other hotels when holding public events.
Gov. Benigno R. Fitial is a former executive of Tan Holdings, which owns Fiesta Resort the Saipan Tribune and several other businesses on island.
Press Secretary Charles P. Reyes Jr. said Fiesta Resort is one of only a few remaining vendors that still accepts government accounts.
“Some vendors do not take government accounts because the government is slow to pay them. (Fiesta Resort) might have a little bit of flexibility. It’s a very nice property. It’s just the best deal we can get,” said Reyes.
Major government-related events have been held at Fiesta Resort since Fitial became governor in Jan. 2006.
Reyes said Fiesta Resort offers big function rooms and is close to downtown Garapan, the center of business activities on Saipan.
The Hyatt Regency Saipan and Hafa Adai Beach Hotel are also located in downtown Garapan.
