THE Tamuning Gym was the site for the Guam Power/Water Authority Intramural Basketball League Wednesday with Guam EPA taking on GWA in the opening game.
The game was a close one with GWA pulling of a 56-50 win to improve to a 4-2 record. Zack Sanchez led GWA as he scored 19 points.
Benny Chargualaf added 11 points scoring eight of them in the second half. Galo Buluran paced Guam EPA with 15 points.
GWA, who had a commanding 13 point lead going into the half, would be pressured by the EPA defense and would allow the EPA team to get back into the game. But with time expiring GWA would make a couple of easy lay-ups to seal the victory. Guam EPA drops to two and three on the season.
In the second game of the night the Generation would match-up against the Underground in a game that would see the Generation as the victors winning 43 – 24. Eddie Senato would score 14 points for the Underground but would be matched by the Generation’s Justin Benavente who had help from Joe Sanchez who would add nine in the Generation victory. Aselmo Manabusan, Simon Camacho, and Roke Munoz would all score their first baskets of the season adding two points a piece for the Underground.
The last game of the night would pit the Administration against the MEC with the Administration team winning 47 – 29. The Administration team would be led by Ken Gutierrez and Chris Paris scoring 16 and 14 respectively. Vinny Blas would also contribute six points in the win.
MEC was led by the scoring prowess of Joe Burgois who had 13 in the MEC losing effort. After the games the league Coordinator Joe Quinata thanked the Guam Masters Officiating President Ray Topasna along with the GPA Management including; John Benavente, Joaquin Flores, Andy Balajadia, and Jamie Pangelinan. Quinata also recognized mayors Frank Blas and Luis Rivera for their contributions along with the Tamuning gym staff of Gavin, Teddy, and Pete. He also thanked Bertha Camacho from Wired for Sound for providing the music at the gym. And lastly he thanked each team who competes in the league, because without them there wouldn’t be a league.
