Air Force Civic Action Team 07-03 will bid farewell to Palau after completing its six month deployment.
The Air Force 13-man team will be formally replaced by the Navy Civic Action Team 04-29 in a change of command turnover ceremony on April 13.
Air Force Capt. Ryan Walinski said that during their stay the team has completed projects in Palau costing close to a million dollars.
Walinski in an interview said that the most significant project that the team has carried out was the Peleliu and Angaur airfields upgrade.
Walinski said the project has improved the airport in the two states which could be used for emergency landing.
He said the project was also the most significant because of the difficulty of completing the project logistically.
The team also recently completed work at the Palau Community College poultry house, Koror Prison Workshop, Ibobang and Camp Katuu basketball courts.
The team for over two months also had a weekly radio show with KD 89.9 FM.
As part of their community relations the team has also showed four movies a week in different states, Camp Katuu, Belau National Hospital and the Head Start schools.
The team also participated in the Halloween and Christmas activities in Palau and the 2007 House of Delegates Ngerulmud half-marathon last February.
The team also saw 3,125 patients from all the 16 states.
Eight apprentices graduated during the team’s deployment including the three that will be graduating during the turnover ceremony.
Walinski said it was a general consensus that the Palau deployment was "the best appointment for the team."
"People are nice and we thank Palau for the warm reception we got here. They are extremely nice and helpful," Walinski
said.
