Navy plans huge presence in Pacific

WASHINGTON (Pacnews) — The U.S. Navy confirmed a short-term plan on Tuesday to increase its forces in the Pacific, mobilizing a great naval contingent to the area as a prelude.
The Navy will send three aircraft carriers and additional ships to patrol waters close to Guam, in an exercise the Pentagon labels “Brave Shield..”
Adm. Gary Roughhead explained that the Defense Department was planning to put most of its attack submarines along ocean perimeters before 2010.
In addition, the Navy will position six aircraft carriers in the Western Pacific.
Roughead said the coming maneuvers will recall the June exercises in that area, with 28 ships, 280 aircraft and 22,000 U.S. troops.
The world’s military expenses last year exceeded $990 billion —America’s spending accounted for almost half.
