THE Grand Mean
Striking Machines and Fiesta Fuerza will open the hostilities in the Spring
2007 NMIFA Womens Recreational League tomorrow at the Oleai Sports
Complex Field.
The Striking Machines and Fiesta Fuerza collide in the league opener at
8:30 a.m., while Smiths Sonic Booms and PICs Pretty Incredible
Chicks square off at 10 a.m.
The Northern Mariana Islands Football Associations womens
spring league was originally set to kick off last month, but with NMIFA
busy in preparing the NMI Mens and Womens National Teams for
games against Guam, organizers decided to delay the opening.
The four teams in this years spring league will be beefed up by
members of the NMI Nationals.
Leading the Grand Mean Striking Machines are NMI forward Morgan Rose and
midfielder Elisa Long. Rose is captain, while Long is her co-captain.
Other members of the team are Linda Anastacio, Cathy Anderson, Samantha
Birmingham, Rchael Brownstein, Kelley Butcher, Melissa Dickinson, Natalie
Hill, Ashley Hofschneider, Jack Rosezonia, Zoe Jewell, Betty Johnson,
Khamfong Laithong, EJ Lee, Leanne Loan, Anna Manibusan, Becca Newman,
Leena Ramnani, Sharleen Sablan and Miyuki Tate.
Fiesta will be captained by NMI defense fielder Becca Rath with midfielder
Lindsay Davis her co-captain. Completing the team are Emma Baron, Susan
Book, Mel Borja, Katie Busenkell, Fran Castro, Patty Coleman, Becky Covarrubias,
Erick Frink, Melissa and Rima Halaby, Karen Klaver, Roxie Lamar, Chirapan
McGuire, Bobbie Petersen, Malaiwan Punperm, Julie Sarich, Nikki Shryack
and Alenny Tenorio.
NMI midfielder Emily Gries will take charge of the Sonic Booms. Her co-captain
is NMI teammate and forward Brenda Schultz. Joining them on the team are
Toom Anvsiri, Mi Yeon Cho, Maryana Gramlich, Marie Jane Guaio, Irma Halaby,
Tomoko Kawakata, Sue Knecht, Qian Liberman, Maria Ornes, Kathy Pagapular,
Pratoom Pannok, Vanessa Pritchard, Ami Ridenour, Francine Sablan, Vilma
Satur, Madison Smith, Joan Taitano and Mihoko Tuttle.
PIC will be led by captain and NMI defense fielder Sarah Helbert and co-captain
and NMI midfielder Divya Sharma.
Also on the PIC roster are Vince Asanuma, Twany Barcinas, Anna Christopher,
Thin Thin Conlon, Don Decha, Tree Dirwiset, Lavelle Lee DLonsool,
Maggie George, Temary Gramlich, Dede Hill, Teresa Kim, Allison Livingston,
Lorraine Liwiski, Gayle Martin, Angie Mister, Camryn Mosley, Laila Quidsi,
Nicolette Seckeler, Desire Topper.
The four teams will play in a double-round regular season with all teams
advancing to the playoffs.
Playoff matches will feature the No. 1 team facing the No. 4 squad and
the No. 2 team meeting the No. 3 squad.
Organizers are advising members of the team to report to the venue 30
minutes before the match starts.
