Nonprofessional cooking contest on May 5

(DEQ) — The Division of Environmental Quality has partnered with the CNMI Diabetes Prevention and Control Program and NMC-Cooperative Research, Extension and Education Services to hold a nonprofessional cooking contest on Saturday, May 5 at the DEQ Sustainable Living Festival at the Sabalu Market in Susupe.
The challenge is open to nonprofessionals only.
Tayna B. Camacho, contest coordinator said, “Nonprofessionals are members of the community with no association to a restaurant or food service establishment. Participation is limited and interested cooks must sign up with our office.”
According to Camacho, judging will be based on taste, creative presentation, texture, use of fresh local ingredients and originality.
Registrations must be submitted no later than 4 p.m. on Monday, April 23, to Tayna B. Camacho or Ling Rabauliman at the CNMI-Diabetes Prevention and Control Program located at #N-16, Navy Hill, across the old lighthouse.
Entries may also be submitted via fax at 664-4020.
The “Cook A Rainbow Challenge” is held in conjunction with the Sustainable Living Festival.
From a sustainable perspective, buying and eating locally grown food is a winner and organizers hope to raise awareness on sustainable living and encourages more local support.
