THE Navy is planning
to hold its scoping meetings related to the proposed relocation of the
Marines to Guam and the CNMI this week.
The meetings were supposed to be held earlier but they had to be postponed
because of the adverse weather conditions brought on by Typhoon Kong-Rey.
The Guam scoping meetings are scheduled to be held Tuesday, April 17,
at the Yona Community Center and Wednesday, April 18, at the Dededo Senior
Citizens Center, next to the mayors office.
The Saipan scoping meeting will be held Thursday, April 19, at the Multi
Purpose Center, and on Tinian on Friday, April 20, at the Tinian Elementary
School. All scoping meetings are scheduled from 5 to 9 p.m.
According to the military, the meetings will go on as long as people are
seeking information and wish to offer their comments.
The scoping meetings will be like an informal open house with visuals
placed around the room in information stations. The information shown
is what is intended to be included in the environmental impact statement,
or EIS, to be developed over the next few years.
An EIS analyzes the impact such a move has on a community and the environment.
Subject experts will be on hand at the scoping meeting open house for
discussion of the information being presented.
