GUAM Public School
System spokesperson Gerry Cruz said the Western Association of Schools
and Colleges, or WASC, was impressed with John F. Kennedy High School
which they visited last Thursday and Friday.
The WASC report for JFK High School was satisfactory. But at the
same time, they said the school had some areas of concern, Cruz
added.
The areas of concern include the campus main facility
which GPSS expected, said Cruz. The other area of concern the WASC team
pointed out with school officials was the updating of fire alarms and
campus intercoms.
The WASC team did not only look into the facility but also the schools
academic programs and the involvement of stakeholders.
On Friday, the visiting team met with parents, faculty, and staff of John
F. Kennedy High School in a closed-door meeting. Members of the media
were not allowed to cover Fridays meeting.
The WASC team, according to Cruz, completed its visit of Upi Elementary
School in Yigo last week and will make their way to Southern High School
on April 23 to 25.
Cruz pointed out the the WASC team currently on Guam is not the accrediting
team.
This is a fact-finding team that will pretty much take a snapshot
of the schools condition and present them to a team in Washington,
D.C. which will be the one to issue a final decision, Cruz said.
