A RELEASED drug peddler was
brought back in detention and has to explain himself to court today why
his supervised release should not be revoked after he was discovered using
prohibited drugs.
Salvador Jasmin was sentenced on July 11, 2002 for possession of methamphetamine
with an intent to distribute.
He was ordered to serve 21 months in jail which should be followed by
48 months of supervised release.
Jasmins sentence was a result of a plea agreement he entered on
Oct. 2, 2000.
As conditions of his supervised release, he was ordered to refrain from
using and possessing illegal controlled substance or alcohol.
However, the U.S. Probation Office filed a petition to revoke Jasmins
supervised release and detention after recording several violations.
Jasmin tested positive for controlled substance on Oct. 4, 2006. He failed
to submit to substance abuse testing on Oct. 9, 2006, failed to report
for substance abuse counseling on Oct. 18, 2006, and failed to follow
the instructions of the probation officer.
The felon also failed to notify the probation officer 10 days prior to
a change in his address.
Jasmin was re-arrested and detained last week by virtue of a warrant of
arrest issued by the District Court.
This morning, he will be escorted by his counsel Richard Arens to convince
Magistrate Judge Joaquin Manibusan not to modify or revoke his supervised
release conditions.
