Peace Corps volunteer Sarah
Klain of the Palau Turtle Program and Surangel and Sons employee Jojo
Labro topped the female and male divisions, respectively, in last Saturdays
(April 7) 4th Annual Palau Pacific Resort half-marathon.
Klain crossed the finish line with a time of one hour and 45 minutes after
covering the 13.1 miles course from Aimeliik to PPR beach.
Robin Putney was second in 2:08.50 while Annabel Lyman was third in 2:27.13.
In the male category, Labro crossed the finish line with a time of one
hour, 40 minutes and 48 seconds while Nestor Parinas was second in 1:41.34
and Ted Croll was third in 2:11.56.
Japanese regular competitor Toshikazu Misawa was the only runner for the
full-marathon, which covered 26.2 miles from Ngardmau.
Misawa, a database application specialist at the Ministry of Health, registered
a time of four hours, 41 minutes and 46 seconds, which was slower than
the all time record of 3:58.03 set by Krista Callinan last year.
However, Misawa bettered his time of 5:08-27 for winning the mens
division last year.
In the junior relay, the Stars that composed of Anjta Flowers, Maria Gibbons,
Rekoi Yano and Cliver Rafael, won their back-to-back for this category
as they checked in with a time of 2:05.30, which was better that last
years time of 2:23.50.
Team Speedo came in second while Cool Runnings, composed of Osiang Chilton,
Marina Toribiong, Colleen Gibbons and Abigail Gbewonyo, third in 2:28.28.
PTFAs Tipsy team of Jose Meltel, Leon Mengloi, Christopher Kenty
and Douglas Schmidt came first in the open relay.
