Pats maintain perfect record, hand Hustlers first Majors loss

THE defending champion SAIPANCELL Patriots won the battle of undefeated teams in the Majors division of the 2007 Saipan Little League Baseball tournament last Sunday at the Miguel “Tan Ge” Basa Pangelinan Ballfield.
The Patriots played in the third game and went home with a 6-2 triumph over the Hustlers to improve to an 8-0 record. The Hustlers absorbed their first defeat in six games.
Allan Aguon and Chris Mizer led the Pats eighth straight win. Aguon was perfect at the plate hitting 2-for-2 with a triple and a RBI. Mizer was 2-for-3 with two doubles.
In other results, the Ol’Aces II, San Vicente A’s, McDonalds and Mobil Kagman Aztecs won their respective assignments.
The Ol’Aces II notched a 12-2 triumph over the Pirates after only four innings to claim their sixth win in seven games.
Jacob Torres and Ben Diaz both went 2-for-3 at the plate. Torres added two runs, four RBIs and one over-the-fence homer. Diaz contributed a single and an RBI.
Relief pitcher Carl Camacho, who replaced Cain Castro at the top of the third inning, did a good job on the mound posting three strikeouts, allowing four walks, giving up no hits and no runs.
In the second game last Sunday, the A’s nipped the San Antonio Dragons, 17-16.
After five complete innings, the A’s were leading by two, 17-15, and the Dragons scored only one run at the top of the sixth to drop to a 1-5 record. The A’s improved to a 2-6 slate.
McDonald’s also nailed a close win against the As Matuis Twins, 9-7.
Ian Rogolofoi led McDonald’s with his perfect performance at the plate hitting 4-for-4 with four singles, two runs and two RBIs.
McDonald’s now has four wins in six games, while the Twins absorbed their second loss in eight games.
The Aztecs improved to a 5-1 record after blanking the Ol’Aces I, 18-0, in the last game last Saturday.
Over at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Ballfield, the Falcons defeated the Pirates, 7-6, in the Senior League, while the Jets and the Hustlers prevailed in the Junior division.
The Falcons’ Juan Tenorio stole bases on a Pirates’ wild pitch at the bottom of the eight to lift his team to a one-point win.
The Jets had an easier time against the Ol’Aces nothing a 16-3 triumph.
Shortstop Anthony Salas went 4-for-5 with four singles, four runs and three RBIs.
Eric Tenorio was perfect at the plate in the Hustlers 8-5 victory over the Pirates. Tenorio went 4-for-4 with three runs and a double.
